Third Sunday Dinners

Celebrity Dairy invites you to dinner on the third Sunday afternoon of each month. Dinner menus change with the seasons, but always include Celebrity Dairy Goat cheese. Hosts Brit and Fleming Pfann enjoy sharing their home and everyday farm happenings -that sometimes includes helping mother goats deliver kids. We lovingly prepare dinner with the same care and creativity that goes into the production of the Celebrity Cheese. Other local farms such as Sunny Slopes, Periwinkle, and Peregrine Farms provide fresh seasonal produce and flowers.

You and your guests arrive about 1:30 for a bit of socializing over appetizers and goat cheese. Then at 2:00 either Brit or Fleming gives a brief welcome and the "cheese chat" - covering uses, storage, and odd things they have discovered in their twenty-something years of cheesemaking. Guests then seat themselves at a long common large table for the 4-5 course meal.

We encourage parties coming together to sit opposite each other, as this gives you the pleasure of conversation with "new" dinner companions seated to your either side. It pleases us to see how many lively conversations occur up and down the table.

You are encouraged to bring your preferred wine or beer. Vegetarian entrees are available upon request.

After the main course we take a break and tour the barn and cheese room. Alternately you may choose to relax a bit or wander about the inn. Then back to the inn for dessert and coffee or tea. We love to have you linger as long as your schedule permits. Sunset is lovely from the upstairs porch of the Inn. The Inn is fully air-conditioned for summer, and in cool weather we'll have a fire burning in the fireplace.

Over the years we've had guest chefs for these Sunday dinners. At first we wondered why a chef who had their own kitchen would want to cook for one of our events . The anwser is that its a lot of fun to cook for a group of people who have enough passion for local seasonal food to travel to the farm to spend a whole afternoon at table. It gives the chef freedom to create unrestricted by their restaurant's format - thus allowing them to experiment with different ingredients and styles.

In 2010, we're very pleased to have guest chef dinners

  • Bonne Soiree Wine Dinners - each season Chip Smith and Tina Vaughn - chef/owners of "Bonne Soiree" - Chapel Hill's very special French restaurant take a Sunday holiday to share their excellent food in our informal atmosphere. These dinners will be the third Sunday in the months of March, June, September, and October. The exception to our normal policy of inviting guests to bring their favorite wines: for these dinners Tina will be pairing wines to complement each of Chip's courses. Very special dinners indeed.
  • Angelina's August dinner - Owner of Angelina's Kitchen in Pittsboro - presents a summer menu with a Greek twist - a menu of food in celebrition of the Virgin Mary - also known as the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos.
