Renaissance
Birthday
Sixty years....Seems like it was only yesterday, but 10 years ago we had just moved into the log cabin,
and celebrated with a pretty good party for Fleming's 50th birthday. This time
seemed more important, and a time for renewal, changing direction, and a celebration with family, and old friends
and new.
Since Fleming shares her birthday with Thanksgiving weekend, she had a 4-day celebration. First - her extended
family's annual gathering on Thanksgiving day (an unbroken tradition her own grandmother started in the early 30's),
followed by a renaissance costume party that Saturday.
A contingent of some 20 actors and musicians from the Maryland Renaissance Faire provided music and entertainment
throughout the day, and during the celebratory feast that evening.
Major credit for organization of the event go to Fleming's daughter Barbara Mansfield, and son John Bonitz.
Fleming has promised that she won't do this to them again: next decade she'll go on a cruise, or something. Also
- thanks for the setting to Gloria - and "the house the goats built".
